I found this dental office from my insurance company's website. They were able to take me in as a new patient within 1 week. That's fantastic! Ryan was the dental hygienist that helped me. Super nice chap, with excellent skills. Dr. Sonson gave me the rundown of what to do to keep my teeth and gum healthy. Very efficient and professional. Friendly front desk staff as well. Spotless and clean space. I already made my next appointment with them. Nice!
I’ve been going here for years. Dr. Dunkelberger is a top notch dentist. My oral health has never been better. Look no where else. This is the place- great team of hygienists, super location/parking.
When I called, I spoke with someone named Casey on the phone. She was extremely rude. I did not realize there were two locations of Kailua Dental. That itself is very confusing to patients. Casey needs training on customer service.
9/26/2025 - Wanted to update my review, it's been a minute I love, love, love this place. From Kaulena in the front, to all of the dentists, in the back. They really hire the best people too, the hygienists make me laugh. I look forward to my appointments, to the point I fly in from the Big Island, clear my whole day's schedule, just so I can hang out and get all of my work done! They accommodate me to the point I feel like royalty. Dr. Dunkelberger takes his time to explain the costs, what is necessary/what is not and will stay to get all of my work done while I'm there, plus get a nice polish in. The cool part is everyone works together and will ALL STAY OVER to help me too (hence the royalty part)!!! It's nice to be here too, the vibe is everybody really enjoys being there, all are super nice and helpful, you can tell they genuinely want to be there and are VERY capable at their jobs. My husband knows to not even ask me to switch to a dentist on the BI because I'm so locked in with Kailua Dental Care. I cannot believe I am so blessed to have them as my dentist! Ryan, the dental hygienist is AMAZING! The dentists are all really great dentists, too. They do great work here, I know I've been a patient since 2013, when I moved here. VERY GENTLE, VERY KIND, EXCELLENT CARE! They made me a new bridge and it's always being complimented by other dental professionals I see. I feel like I'm in really good hands here, do not hesitate to make an appointment even if it's been awhile. I have had A LOT of work done and am sensitive and traumatized by most of it. The last 12 years have been a delight though because when you find the right dentist who doesn't judge and works with you, you keep them!
I've been a patient at Kailua Dental Care since they first opened, and I've been treated by Dr. Sonson and several other dentists, most recently Dr. Simmons. My experience over the past month has prompted this review… They get ALL THE STARS and I can't recommend them enough. The office is always clean and welcoming, creating a pleasant atmosphere from the moment you walk in. The staff is consistently friendly and efficient, making scheduling a breeze. I particularly appreciate the notifications for last-minute appointment openings, which have been very convenient. Gail, in particular, goes above and beyond when it comes to checking my insurance coverage and providing accurate quotes. Her thoroughness and attention to detail have saved me a lot of stress and worry. Dr. Simmons is exceptional at his work. He has a knack for making patients feel comfortable, which is invaluable during dental procedures. I was particularly impressed with how easy and smooth my experience was when I got my first crown this month, despite being initially devastated to learn I needed one. The quality of care and professionalism exhibited by Dr. Simmons and his team is outstanding. I will never go anywhere else.
