Up until last week, I would have given them a good review. Despite being constantly rescheduled, I still thought of them as a competent staff. Pleasant even. My son likes them. I always wondered why Dr. Ray asked me the same questions over and over about my identity, but it’s easy to forget someone you only see twice a year. Yet, if he would check the record before seeing a patient he would be sure whom he is treating. For example: he would know that the filling he said he recommended in 2018 was done in 2024 and that he did it himself. I had to go back 4 times for him to scrape the filling off my gum since it went down over the gum line. It was a shoddy job. He would also know that the tooth he filled could not be my number 1. Number 1s are wisdom teeth and he was the one who took them out more than 5 years ago. Him and/or his daddy. All 4 of them. I have no number 1s. So back to what happened last week. This new hygienist disclosed that my teeth, which are cleaned regularly 4 times a year were in real bad shape and when she went to get the Dr. to check, he had left the office with no notice (at least to her). There was much confusion about what treatment I would receive since the doctor was not there. When contacted he told the receptionist that my teeth would be examined when I came for the filling recommended in 2018…A filling which had been done in 2024 and I would not have taken 4 years to do a filling. The filling was to be for a number 1, (wisdom tooth I no longer have). She also reported that there is no record I alternated cleaning between them and a specialist. Something I had been doing since 2011 or 2012. So, I made an appointment to see the specialist and when he examined my mouth today, I was relieved to know it was not half as bad as this new hygienist had said but I do not envision going back to Ray. Turns out the hygienist made some errors in judgement as the specialist confirmed that Dr. Ray was giving me the right treatment. The frequency was the treatment and I have no idea what code she kept referring to. They need to work on consistency, communication, and staff unity. I don’t know how long Miss New hygienist will be there because they are not on the same page and she is showing them up real badly. Before that, I rarely had an issue. It was a stressful experience. I may return but for the rest of this year, I’ll give them a walk.

Had my 3rd appt with Dr Ray to replace my partial. From the very beginning I have found his staff unfriendly, in fact rude from the support staff, even his assistants. They give you the impression they don't want to be there & treat you like you are an interruption. On my 3rd visit for impressions, I was presented with a wax replica of my partial. The 4 teeth I lost were replaced with 6 small teeth 1/2 the size & length of my other teeth & when I smiled the teeth in the partial were not even visible. I immediately told Dr Ray I was very unhappy. His response was to get my 3rd impression. For 1 hr I waited & Dr Ray never returned to my room to even talk to me. After I appro a ched his staff, about my unhappiness & requested my $1200 back & i would be Happy to leave. They responded saying they would send me my refund, so i await the refund. In my 50+ yrs, this was my worst experience with any dentist. I would never recommend Dr Ray for partials or dentures. There are other offices in Sumter who would appreciate you as well as treat you with dignity and respect. Do yourself a favor & go there & you will be happier.

Very very unprofessional! Had an appointment for oral surgery 01/23/25 @8:30 am. Being that the weather was bad, I called the office on 01/22/25 to check if they would be rescheduling and I got no answer and the voicemail didn’t have a message stated closed due to weather. So I left 2 messages at 2 different times asking if someone would give me a call back. Didn’t get a call back. The morning of my appointment 01/23/25, since no one called me back, I made the drive to their office. Got there at 8:00 am and waited for my appointment at 8:30. No one ever showed up nor gave me a call. I waited until 9:00 am; no one showed up. I say all of this to say this establishment/staff is very unprofessional. I feel like they did not care about me as a patient and I will not support them anymore. Also, as I waited there were 2 other customers that came and I told them I was here since 8 and no one has come yet. Why did I expect more considering the staff is very rude when you call and not helpful. Please be and do better to the people that support you! Definitely would have given 0 stars if I could!

I recently had a set of dentures made at Ray Family & Cosmetic Dentistry, and I have to tell you they were the most horrific dentures I have ever seen in my life and I have worn dentures for over 20yrs. They look like they were made for an animal instead of a human being. I would never ever use them again.

I had my two front teeth extracted last Tuesday and went back today to try out another partial I give the business four stars because of the cost being affordable and Dr. Ray knows his dentistry. However, nobody asked me how I was feeling after the surgery of my two front teeth. Your front teeth is your entire smile and speech! The dental assistant asked me why I was there today when she should have known that. The Doctor never came into my room to check on me and when I left he was standing right in the area to exit looking at his phone. Guess what? He missed another opportunity to speak to his patient like someone who cares about his patients. Dr. Ray may be skilled at what he does but sucks in the department of showing compassion to his patient. I guess I have to be someone that is of higher standing and known to get some doctor- patient courtesy and compassion.🥲
