Powered by GoogleI’ve been calling everyday for a month now. Everyday it’s the same thing “ we don’t have any openings” or “ call at your convenience”. I understand it is a teaching facility….but the lack of staffing is incredible ridiculous for the amount of patients who you know come to your clinic. A whole month of calling & not once have I gotten an answer to how far booked out, how long before I can get it. Personally that’s not a good staffed clinic. Very disappointing that my dental work has to be pushed back because lack of staffing. It is not okay that me & lots of others have been told things that aren’t even true or that don’t even happen. Do better. Get more staff. Stop telling people things that don’t ever happen. It’s gotten to bad that I’m almost to the point of looking elsewhere for my dental care because I can not guarantee I will ever get in, in the next month or so!! Just do better!!
Both of my children were recently seen at the pediatric dentistry. A child younger than two and a school aged, which was me giving a second chance after what the CDD did to my older child in previous years. They’re really good at being performative- they care, want to know your concerns, and make your children comfortable. My 18 month old baby has dealt with some health stuff, definitely impacted his teeth. Took him in right away, they assured me he was okay, contact them if it got worse. No x rays, nothing. It looked “minimal.” Flash forward, just a couple of weeks, it did get worse. Reached out and was ignored. Reached out and told they had me talk to an emergency dentist who said he was fine and to schedule a couple weeks out with the soonest as she didn’t think it was urgent I did. That didn’t seem right to me. Got a second opinion, and guess who had to have two teeth pulled and is a brand new baby over it? Now, my oldest was non verbal and I’ll spare you the details but the dentistry left us with a situation in 2021 that made him never want to go to the dentist again. He’s older now and he saw a dentist who seemed genuine and she was an angel. We had to cancel a couple of times- baby brother has a diagnosed underactive immune system amongst other things, big brother has asthma, peak cold and flu season. He has asked to see this same dentist again which is AMAZIMG. Well, when I called to reschedule and cancel the baby’s appointment because we had to seek care where I was listened to, she claimed that dentist had NO availability for two months. That same dentist who pulled up her schedule and asked us about 49 different times weeks prior. And to call and ask about March. My son doesn’t want to see another dentist but this whole thing has confirmed that maybe I should have learned the first time. The university of Iowa children’s hospital has been nothing but amazing to my children when they’ve needed it, I was hopeful that all of the practicing clinics would leave the same impression.
To say I was just “satisfied” is an understatement. Dr. Vargus and his assistant do a spectacular job! He explains to me exactly what he is doing, his plan forward, gives me all the options and make sure I understand. His assistant is very friendly and helpful as well. Oh, and I got a call this morning asking if I have any questions about what to expect at my next appointment. Now that’s what I call. GREAT customer service!
I am quite fortunate to have Oral Surgeon, Dr. timothy Horton and Prosthodontist, Dr. Joseph Curtis who are the best. Their combined skills performed an excellent dental surgery on me yesterday and my recovery is proceeding very well. Larry
I walked into the dental building today for my 2:00 appointment, a wisdom tooth evaluation for scheduling an extraction. Before showing up I was told multiple times on the phone to go to the fourth floor to the oral surgery clinic. After going to the fourth floor, I only seen one clinic and it was not the oral surgery clinic, and it confused me. I tried calling back multiple times to get a clear answer on where to go, they ended up telling me to go back downstairs and speak to the front desk lady. I got down there and tried to speak to her, but before I could get a word out she stuck her hand up at me and said “Okay. We can’t have you running around like that, there are like… actual DEANS and students here, so… there’s literally signs telling you where to go.” Completely unprofessional, and SO rude. Just be kind or have someone help escort me to find it. I know nobody cares but it upset me so much that I was being blamed for not being able to find the clinic, I ended up leaving all though I’ve had severe gum pain from these wisdom teeth and drove two hours to even get there today. It’s a shame this is the only oral surgery clinic that accepts Medicaid, because if it were different / if I had a choice, I would not return here JUST based off my experience today. I will be calling to try to reschedule my appointment, and will not go in there alone anymore because of how I was treated. Cried the whole way home because I thought I was going to be able to get my teeth looked at finally , and maybe schedule my surgery so I don’t have to deal with this pain anymore. It is NOT hard to be kind. At all.
