I was recommended by Portland Community Dental to take up my services with UNE-OHC since their patients have the best luck on their dental services. I have called in early December 2025 to take my business there and they fit me in last Thursday. They treated me well, and they were very knowledgeable and professional. I would've given them five stars---except I had to dock a star due to the students taking a photo of me, which I didn't ask nor consent. I needed to be honest and let them know I don't like my photo at all. and I have absolutely no desire to ever see a photo of me. But the only worst thing is the student treating me like a criminal about to be processed for booking at the penetentary---referring /labeling a photo as a mug shot, and I am not a criminal. Therefore I don't even think that's funny. Despite the unwanted photo they took of me and their reference of the photo as a mug shot and their brief treatment of me as a convict being booked, they were really looking out for my best interests at heart. Though I have done everything right as far as my own oral health is concerned, I have learned that I have sustained a cracked tooth. Now that I am done with the screening, which is my first appointment---ironically as a first-time patient, my next appointment will be in two months, and it's for a comprehensive oral exam. Hopefully my next appointment---which is slated in two months will be better, and hopefully they won't make an unnecessary mistake of labeling their photo of me as a mug shot or treat me like an inmate of a prison. If they treat me better and not make any wisecracks about the photo, which I am reluctant to take---knowing they'd exploit me, then I would give them five stars.

I had a very distressing experience during a wisdom tooth extraction at the UNE dental clinic. The numbing gel was not effective, and I told the providers that I did not feel well. During the procedure I began shaking uncontrollably, could not answer questions, and was in severe pain. Despite these clear signs of distress, the procedure continued. An instructor present shouted at me to be quiet because other people were there, rather than stopping the procedure and reassessing my condition. It was only after further intervention that the procedure was finally shut down. Patients showing signs of severe pain, shaking, or inability to respond should be taken seriously, especially in a teaching environment. I hope the clinic reviews its supervision and patient-safety protocols so others do not have a similar experience. Students are just learning only can blame the instructor.

Had Nadine, class of "27", do an extraction for me today. Her and the other students were very professional. Thorough with the instructions and created a comfortable atmosphere. Thank you very much.

BEWARE on the unfair treatment over a policy they created, we followed, and banned us anyway when we got sick. This proves that they don’t value patient health and care like they say they do!!! My husband was a patient in 2022. When he went there to make appointments, the rule was “if you have any Covid symptoms, been around someone who has, or had to travel, not to show up and please cancel for the safety of customers, patients, and the workers.”…. Well he made appointments and on the first one, he had Covid, so in turn, he rescheduled, but unfortunately in the following couple weeks, I had it, so he rescheduled again. On the third time, he was sent home by the staff because of being out of state and we find out years later that it was never put into the system so it looked like a “no show”. After the third time and being sent home he stopped rescheduling because we just didn’t want to risk wasting anyone’s time, plus we ended up losing insurance temporarily. Recently, we’ve been trying to contact them with no luck, until finally we got ahold of someone and they said that he was banned from coming back due to the cancellations. He was simply following protocol and the policy they had in place to keep everyone safe, and doing what they ask each time, and even their staff made a mistake by not reporting he was even sent home at one point. Due to that, he was not allowed to ever return to the health center even 3 years later and pleading his case to even the dean of UNE!! They put these rules in place and then get penalized and banned for it?? That is extremely unfair and it’s disgusting that they still hold a grudge even 3 years later despite the times and what was going on back then. This tells me and sends an example that patients there shouldn’t report that they are sick or else they make get in trouble and banned, and with all the viruses and Covid still being around, that is extremely irresponsible. When I tried to defend him and they wouldn’t hear me out as I am an advocate, they called us difficult and said I can’t be a patient either. None of this is ok and the level of professionalism is clearly lacking!!! People should be aware that I guess if you are a patient there, don’t report the truth about being sick more than once, because you will be banned, then when you get upset, rightfully so, you still better shut your mouth or else. He was a great and polite patient simply following protocol and this is how they treat us?? Even 3 years later! We plead our case politely and they still wouldn’t budge, not even the dean has anything to say!! Just disgusting ! But we aren’t allowed to be angry? Especially when in a lot of pain, need work done, and their “3 day call back time” turned into months. Do they even check their email???? Guess not! But how dare you get frustrated! They are a mess and clearly need new staff! They failed their patients by doing this!! And even if I gave them a hard time, it was rightfully so because they ignored us until we snapped, then tell us this weeks later!!! They will never be getting our business or money again, and others should be well aware!!! There’s no excuse for this!!! Don’t you dare get sick or do the right thing if you still want to maintain being a patient! Staff was extremely inconsiderate and rude, but when we give it right back, it’s not ok?! Just horrible!!! Save yourself some time and go to real dentist or school clinic that aren’t a bunch of rude and lazy people who clearly don’t value patient health and care without penalizing them even years later or even capable of basic communication in the time frame they guarantee!!!
